Tourism New Zealand Activity

Campaign

Tourism New Zealand has launched a campaign with online travel company Zuji targeting fully independent travellers. The campaign started in October and will run until the end of January 2009.

A campaign site featuring New Zealand tourist attractions, the ‘Youngest Country’ television commercial and travel deals, together with an online quiz to win travel packages, is designed to direct traffic to www.newzealand.com and turn interest into bookings.

Media

Tourism New Zealand assisted RTHK, one of the most influential televisions stations in Hong Kong, in making a travelogue on New Zealand. Two episodes of the programme A Journey Less Ordinary aired in November.

Competitor Activity

Various Australian state tourism boards and Tourism Australia have launched a joint promotion to push Australian tours in Guangdong and Hong Kong, featuring billboards in subways and newspaper ads.

Qantas is advertising special fares between Hong Kong and six Australian cities at HK$4690 for travel before 31 March 2009. Cathay Pacific is also offering huge discounts on most routes to Australia as well as Europe and America.

TVB, the biggest television station in Hong Kong, is screening six episodes of a travelogue featuring Switzerland, which has helped boost Switzerland’s profile in this market. Tourism Switzerland is one of the sponsors for the programme.
