Activity in MarketTourism New Zealand ActivityTradeTourism New Zealand made the decision in August to close its Taipei office. Trade marketing support for the Taiwan market will now be provided by Tourism New Zealand’s trade marketing teams in Shanghai and Wellington. This transition has been made smoothly and Tourism New Zealand will continue to liaise with trade, consumers and media over any issues that arise relating to the change.Tourism New Zealand held a Taiwan trade mission in October; eight New Zealand operators travelled to Taipei and trained 40 local agents and gave product updates. This strong turnout by the Taiwanese travel trade indicates that interest in New Zealand remains high despite the decrease in visitor arrivals. Tourism New Zealand cooperated with four local agents attending the International Travel Fair Taiwan, Taiwan’s largest travel and tourism event. About 150,000 local people visited the November event. Four local agents partnered with Tourism New Zealand and designed itineraries with a special price offered to exhibition visitors. There was strong interest in the honeymoon and eco-tourism products. Tourism New Zealand’s trade partners reported that 70 packages were sold from the stand with many more enquiries to be followed up. Competitor ActivityFrom 15 December, Taiwan will have daily direct charter flights to six cities in mainland China. The Taiwanese Tourism Board has coordinated with five Taiwanese travel agencies and Cathay Pacific Airways to offer attractive deals in support of these new flights.Thai Airways has reduced the fuel surcharge on international and domestic flights and is promoting discount fares to Thailand from Taiwan. For an extra US$150 travellers can purchase a three-flight coupon to fly anywhere within Thailand.
