An additional $3 million investment from the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy will secure more business events for New Zealand, as part of the Government’s Tourism Boost package. The package has been developed by the Government in partnership with the tourism industry to support growth and drive export activity.

The $3 million of additional funding will bolster Tourism New Zealand’s existing Conference Assistance Programme(opens in new window), increasing the number of annual conference bids from 90 to 110. Tourism New Zealand is proud to promote New Zealand as a world-class destination for business events, and welcomes applications for conference bid support here(opens in new window).

Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Hon Louise Upston announced the investment yesterday, and said the additional activity will deliver more than $30 million in incremental spend to the economy. The funding is available to any organisation, including universities, to bid to host an international conference in New Zealand with a minimum of 200 international delegates.

This will play an important role in bringing business event visitors to New Zealand, particularly during the off-peak period between March and November.

“As we all know, New Zealand is a fantastic place to visit for a conference or incentive, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more high-spending visitors here and giving them a uniquely New Zealand experience, Tourism New Zealand General Manager New Zealand and Business Events Bjoern Spreitzer said.

This is an excellent opportunity to pitch New Zealand as a world-class location for business events and showcase our many new conference facilities and experiences on offer around the country.”

The programme will be delivered by Tourism New Zealand in conjunction with cities, venues and the wider industry.
